TITLE: Billing Informatics Specialist

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: St. Charles Health System Community Care supports the health system mission by providing innovative care to achieve better health better care and better value. Community Care helps to bridge any gaps in the needs of patients as they navigate through the continuum of care and throughout the life cycle providing care and supportive services to the communities we serve. The services encourage a focus on providing care for post acute conditions and outpatient care within the realm of Home Health Hospice and Palliative Care while developing strong relationships service line collaboration and referrals of higher acuity conditions. Care is provided to patients and families as part of an integrated system of settings services and care levels with the goal of helping our patients live as independently as possible with a higher quality of life even and especially during advancing illness and end of life care.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Billing Informatics Specialist is responsible for guiding Home Health and Hospice coding and billing processes. This specialist holds current Epic certifications for Home Health and Hospice understands home care billing practices within Epic understands the healthcare revenue cycle and has experience in as well as continued training in Home Health and Hospice industry requirements. This position will work with Community Care billers and coders and Information Services analysts to ensure workflows are efficient and meet all regulatory needs. This position does not directly manage other caregivers however may be asked to review and provide feedback on the work of other caregivers.


Leads a complex billing coding and Electronic Health Record system using a comprehensive knowledge of industry best practices and process improvement efforts in Community Care.

Coordinates the integration of interrelated system improvement roadmaps and analyzes the change management processes for respective teams while making recommendations for improvement.

Leads the decision process around system enhancement needs and changes for Community Care department

Collaborates with users and vendors to supply complex reporting needs for both IT and the user community.

Effectively partners with IT to support clinical and rev cycle content design standardization and best practice workflows.

Regular training education to remain at highest level of understanding of Epic functionality and Home Health and Hospice billing and coding industry. Must participate in all training and education.

Provides continual analysis of data related to reimbursement as well as contract knowledge.

Performs regular chart auditing to identify workflow or system improvement opportunities. Benchmarks and tracks key performance metrics exception reporting and drill down analysis to proactively identify specific variances in practice patterns.

Participates in initiatives to meet Quality related mandates

Utilizes skillset for growth into coding billing of AIM Palliative Care program

Builds effective collegial relationships with applicable internal and external constituents and stakeholders ensuring optimal operating effectiveness and strategic positioning.

May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization as required or assigned.


Required: Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university OR equivalent work experience and similar successful professional experience.

Screening Exam: Must pass an assessment exam prior to qualifying for an interview unless already Epic certified.

Preferred: Graduate of an accredited college or university. Bachelor s degree in public or business administration management information systems or computer science.


Required: Valid Oregon driver s license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements. Ability to travel to business functions trainings meetings and all SCHS worksites. Must complete Epic certification training if not already Epic certified in the most recent version of the Epic EHR product. This will require overnight travel. Must pass Epic certification exam within 3 months of completing Epic certification training courses.

Preferred: Epic certifications in Home Health Billing and Hospice Billing applications


Required: Two 2 years of paid experience or a combination of education and experience in systems and procedures analysis project management systems support or operational experience in business or clinical area.

Previous experience with Conditions of Participation regulations for Hospice and or Home Health.

Previous Revenue Cycle experience

Preferred: Additional Epic training.

Five years of industry experience within the Home Health and Hospice industry
