The AmeriCorps member will support Bridgeview Housing s Youth Employment and Education Program UPLIFT a year round employment program for middle and high school aged youth living in VHA housing-an ethnically culturally and linguistically diverse group of youth. The program is focused on employment community engagement and college career readiness for youth. The program will match qualified VHA youth with real job opportunities or Internships in Clark County. The program will utilize a database to match qualified applicants with job openings partnering with area businesses to promote VHA youth as promising employees and provide pre-employment screening and post-employment support. The member will serve to support and guide the youth leadership council . The council helps steer VHA s outreach to approximately 900 youth ages 16- 24. The member will cultivate mentors and tutors who will work with youth who need remedial education Adult Basic Education GED education and Adult ESL education. They will provide leadership and give policy and programmatic recommendations to the staff. Ultimately this AmeriCorps Member will implement a jobs program that has a real impact on our work-able population and helps breaks the cycle of poverty for generations to come. Member Duties :
->Provide youth with visits to business colleges and agencies.
->Complete intake with youth for needs assessment and goal setting.
->Assist in planning organizing and implementing Job readiness activities.
->Collaborate with Clark College Youth Build and other agencies to provided GED ESL and Adult Basic Education classes for youth.
->Maintain partnerships with other agencies organizations and local business to enhance On The Job OJT or Internships for VHA youth.
->Communicate with parents guardian to provide program information and updates on youth progress. Support and facilitate meetings with UPLIFT S parent and youth leadership council.
->Provide additional services to youth through partner agencies.
->Provide connections to services in the community to youth.
->Provide guidance support and accountability to youth by keeping in touch and meeting with youth providing steps for them to meet their goals.
->Facilitate job readiness and educational workshops
