Brief description of the job to be performed.
This position is part of a project called the JEAP Initiative that seeks to advance research on the effectiveness of recovery support services for young adults and justice involved adults with substance use disorder This position will work with researchers and Community Boards to plan develop and implement effective communication strategies to share research and best practices with recovery support services organizations policymakers people in recovery and researchers The main responsibility of this position will be to work on a variety of social media video graphic design and website content to help the project team effectively communicate complex information to multiple audiences You will use your multimedia skills to assist with bridging the gap between research and the public You will also perform other research related responsibilities and other tasks as needed including some administrative tasks.
While it is preferred for the person in this position to spend at least some time working in person at the OSLC office this position may be conducted partially or entirely remotely The person in this position will need to be based in one of the following states Oregon Idaho Connecticut or Tennessee.
Essential Job Tasks to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
Initiates drafts and edits communications materials including tip sheets infographics briefs and multimedia products that target a wide range of audiences Collaborates with researchers and with Community Boards made up of people in recovery and individuals who lead recovery related organizations to develop content for materials Develops and manages content calendar for social media drafts social media posts Makes updates to website content and design Drafts content for newsletters and email marketing with input from other members of the JEAP Initiative team Completes work in a timely and efficient matter meets deadlines and communicates any changes in timelines Participates in regular check ins with supervisor and at team meetings Develops and maintains good positive working relations with collaborators and co workers Identifies gaps and opportunities for improving existing communications and outreach activities Helps with other aspects of the project including administrative tasks such as creating and preparing materials for Community Boards making payments to project related vendors reviewing and editing documents taking minutes for Community Board meetings and scheduling appointments Other project related tasks as needed.

Knowledge skills experience education or training needed to perform job.
Either 2 years coursework beyond high school in marketing communications journalism digital media applied health sciences field or related field and Minimum of 2 years of experience with relevant communications or marketing related activities such as website development social media campaigns graphic design and email marketing Or equivalent combination of training and experience appropriate to the position Demonstrated ability for and interest in working effectively with people from a variety of different backgrounds Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or graphic design tools such as Canva to produce communications materials such as reports fact sheets infographics or social media posts Experience creating and updating website content using content management systems such as WordPress Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite such as Word Outlook PowerPoint etc Experience managing social media platforms Familiarity with email marketing systems such as MailChimp Ability to track and review analytics across platforms email website social media to identify opportunities for improving communications activities Ability to translate complex ideas into plain language and use visuals to communicate key messages Proficiency in communicating and engaging effectively with a variety of audiences.
Lived experience in recovery from substance use and or formerly involved with the justice system OR applicants from underrepresented populations as defined by NIH Personal or professional interest in substance use disorders recovery support services or the justice system Experience managing SEO Experience using Twitter and YouTube Experience creating infographics Experience copy editing and proofreading Familiarity with research through your own educational or professional experiences or experience working in a research setting Familiarity with knowledge translation and dissemination strategies for research.
Must be able to create and edit visual materials Must have the ability to be an active listener and document meeting minutes Must be able to sit or stand for periods of time Able to interpret spoken or written communication Must be able to type or otherwise input data into a computer.
