This vacancy is for the Eugene VA Clinic The GS 5 Pharmacy Technicians function in various areas of the pharmacy eg inpatient and outpatient pharmacy patient care areas various storage areas and offices under the supervision of the pharmacy supervisor depending upon the area of administrative assignment of the incumbent or a registered pharmacist in the absence of a pharmacy supervisor.

Pharmacy technicians provide various technical support services within the pharmacy department.
This position involves providing services related to patients admitted to the medical facility and the Emergency Department.
The GS 5 Pharmacy Technician typically carries out the full range of technical support functions described below These include but are not limited to processing and filling inpatient and outpatient prescriptions for scheduled and non scheduled federal legend drugs and medical devices preparation of sterile and non sterile compounded medications over the counter products supply items distribution of unit dose medications ward stock items and delivery of intravenous admixtures The GS 5 Pharmacy Technician scheduled drug and sterile intravenous admixture duties will compose of no more than 25 of their assigned duties.
Stock management Operation maintenance re stocking and troubleshooting of automated dispensing equipment.
Patient and customer relations and Preparation and maintenance of various logs records and reports.
The incumbent may be required to perform some or all of the functions however the relative percentages of time spent performing each specific function varies with the area of administrative assignment.

Preferred Experience One year experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
a Education or Experience Successful completion of a 4 year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor s degree that included at least 24 semester hours of courses related to pharmacy or pharmacy technology successful completion of pertinent specialized training courses in pharmaceutical and pharmacy services while serving in the Armed Forces is creditable on a month for month basis up to the 1 year of experience required for the GS 5 level or at least 1 year of experience at the next lower level that demonstrates the core competencies KSAs described at the GS 4 level In addition the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs.
b Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities.
1 Ability to operate and care for automated dispensing devices and equipment.
2 Knowledge of and ability to perform aseptic technique.
3 Knowledge of basic inventory procedures.
4 Knowledge of pharmacy information systems.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS 5.
Employees are typically expected to work forty hours per week primarily Monday through Friday but may include nights weekends and or holidays as assigned Principle duties require repetitive use of hands and fingers e g preparing IV admixtures use of a computer keyboard etc May require lifting and carrying light loads up to 44lbs including boxes equipment unit dose cassettes and IV solutions stooping or kneeling e g to pick up items from the floor remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers etc sitting walking or standing for long periods of time 4 8 hours Normal ranges of hearing and vision are required to perform work and communicate effectively must have the visual ability to distinguish between basic colors and shades of color An ability to perform tasks requiring rapid mental and muscular coordination functions simultaneously is necessary Must be physically capable of operating various types of equipment used for the job.
